Aristotle

Aristotle was the one who mentored Alexander the Great. He was Plato’s student and a ancient Greek philosopher. Just like Socrates and Plato, Aristotle’s philosophies and ideas have influenced the western philosophy extensively. He has made an enormous contribution in the fields of physics, poetry, music, theater, politics, metaphysics and many more thorough his various writings

Aristotle’s Analytics:-Today, what Aristotelian logic is known as is what Aristotle called analytics. Aristotle worked and wrote six books in all based on analytics. Majority of these writings could not be found in their original form due to the fact that the work seems to have been modified with time by the students and other philosophers. In a book called as Categories, he described about the logic related to simple things. Propositional analytics and their relationships have been compiled in the book On Interpretation. In the writing complied in Topics and Sophistical Refutations, Aristotle explains about the multifarious forms such as syllogisms and dialectics.

Theory of Universals:-In Aristotle’s view, simple types, properties, relations which appear to be common in various instances are called Universals. The existence of universals is only in small objects or things and never anything away from them. Each universal has something that is commonly occurring in every instance of it. Thus, in all the similar looking objects in red color have one thing in common; the universal redness. Another example can be the fact that all the deserts around the world like the Sahara, Kalahari and Gobi to name a few have one exclusive thing in common which is the universal dryness.

Five Fundamental Elements:-Aristotle was one of the few people to actually understand that formation of substances in the nature is based on the five fundamental elements. Firstly, fire, which has the characteristics of hotness and dryness. Then comes Earth, which is considered to be cold and dry. Next in line is Air that is though of being hot and wet. The next element being Water; it has the properties of being cold and wet. And lastly, Aether, which is understood to be a divine object or entity making up the heavenly bodies in the outer space such as planets and stars.

For centuries, Aristotle’s works and writings have been regarded as treasures of knowledge. Aristotle has definitely taught the world a lot about many different aspects of life and he is a true symbol of knowledge and wisdom.
