Porphyry

Born in Tyre, Porphyry who was also known as Porphyrios went off to study in Athens. After the studies, he joined the Neoplatonic group founded by Plotinus in Rome. Plotinus was the one to rescue Porphyry from a state of depression which had almost led him to commit suicide. Plotinus taught philosophy to Porphyry after this incident. In the 301 BC, The Enneads, a more systematic and refined collection which consists of writings and works of Plotinus, was completed by him.

Plotinus

Born in Egypt, Plotinus spent his life mostly in Greece. Ammonius Saccus taught him philosophy in Alexandria. After that, he joined a military expedition against Persia where he got familiar with the Indian ideas. Later, he traveled to Rome to teach philosophy. He was the major figure in Neoplatonism; he represented a spiritual and philosophical which has its roots with Plato or even before and has passed on through the post-Platonic and middle platonic eras.

Parmenides

Parmenides is regarded to be present in the era earlier than Socrates. This places Pamenides’ birth later in the sixth century between 515-10 BC. He lived in Greek city, Elea which is in southern Italy. The philosophies of Parmenides are referred to as Eleatic philosophy sometimes. He composed a poem called as On Nature which is base on philosophy and expresses his views about being.

Epictetus

Epictetus, born as a slave in Phrygia was a Greek Philosopher of the Stoic era. He lived in Rome until the time when he was banished. After that, he settled in Nicopolis which lies in the northwestern part of Greece; he stayed there most of his life and finally died there. The philosophy that Epictetus taught is not just a theory but also a way to lead life.

Aristotle was the one who mentored Alexander the Great. He was Plato’s student and a ancient Greek philosopher.
